Tour Overview

Hampta Pass Trek starts from Manali through lush green forest, alpine meadows (in summer full of wildflowers) to the semi-desert regions of Lahoul over Hampta pass. On a clear day, one can have an excellent view of Indrakila, Deo Tibba, and Indraasan. Entering in Chandra valley surrounded by magnificent high mountainous rage, reached to the legendary lake of Chandra Tal (Moon Lake), the summer house of legendary Himalayan shepherds. Follow the alpine trail along with Chandra River opposite of Chandra—Bhaga, Moulkila, Tila and Karang mountain range till Baralachala. The vehicle will be waiting for the further drive to the central Lahoul, explore ancient temples and the monasteries.

DAY 1: Delhi to Manali 570 kms
A bus will be booked for you. Bus detail will be shared with you on the day of journey.
DAY 2: Day free in Manali
On arrival, our representative will pick you up from the bus stop and escort you to the Hotel arranged for you. After check-in breakfast and tea will be served. The taxi will be reserved for the day for you. So you are free to go around town after rest.
DAY 3: Manali to Marsu, Saten (2500 mtrs.) 5 hours. Trek day 1
After breakfast drive to Prini village, the path leads through the village in a zigzag trail that leads to the valley floor and offers an extensive view. Now an easy path leads to the Khangpa village of Saten, the people living here have migrated from Spiti (Tibet in the olden time). The Khangpa community used to move as Nomad in Chang-Thang.
DAY 4: Marsu, Saten to Balu Gyra (3300 meters) 5 hours. Trek day 2
The trail begins by flat walking through the forest of Maple, Silver Fir, Pine, and Oak, paved by the grass and stone and fields of the wild flowers. Twice have to cross the river, the bank sloping down from the high cliffs all around and ideal location for the end of the day.
DAY 5: Balu Gyra to Shea Gahru (3700 mtrs) over Hamta pass (4200 mtrs.) 6 hours. Trek day 3
The trail begins to ascend toward to the mighty Hamta pass and soon the distant valley of Lahoul/Spiti comes in the view. From the pass one can enjoy the view of magnificent Himalayan peaks like Deo Tibba, Indra Asan, Indra Kila. Slowly landscape starts getting rugged, one hour descend to the meadow of Shea Gahru, beautiful campsite on the foot of the glacier.
DAY 6: Shea Gahru to Chhatru (3360 mtrs). Trek day 6
The trail descends toward the left bank of the, ‘nalla’. Soon the Chandra River is in view, after 3 hours of trek reached at the beautiful campsite, after noon at leisure.
DAY 7: Chhatru to Chhota Dara (3440 mtrs.) 5 Hours. Trek day 5
Easy walks on the dusty and rough road to the opposite of the Chandra river between C.B. range and Chhota Shigri Range.
DAY 8: Chhota Dara to Batal (3640 mtrs) 5 hours. Trek day 6
Easy walk, once again on the same dusty road. The right of the trail opposite of the Chandra river the Bara Shigri range offers a magnificent view of the Lalana, Papsura, Dharamsura (White sale), Shangrila and many other prominent peaks of the range as well as one of the world longest glacier.
DAY 9: Batal to Chandra Tal (4200 mtrs) 5 to 6 hours. Trek day 7
One of the most beautiful trails of the trek offers you a wonderful view of the Chandra valley as well as the now carpet mountain of the C.B range and Mul Kila. Shepherds from the Kangra valley come with their flocks in the valley. Visit around the valley, meet the shepherds, but be careful of the dogs.
DAY 10: Chandra Tal to Topko-Yongmo (4370 mtrs) 6 hours. Trek day 8
Very easy but a long walk with the scenery of the mountainous Chandra-Bhaga (C.B.) range on the opposite side. Camp nearby the river or just before or after crossing the river, all trekkers are advised to put on the sneakers while crossing the river.
DAY 11: Topko-Yongmo to Topko-Gongmo (4450 mtrs) 3 to 4 hours. Trek day 9
Another river crossing is involved today, if you arrive before noon. Afternoon it is advised not to cross the river, because water level can increase rapidly due to the perpetual heat on the glacier. So one should cross as early as possible even one has to camp early day before wade through the river.
DAY 12: Topko-Gongmo to base of Baralacha (4550mtrs). Trek day 10
Just crossing the river, the camp site is after one hour, near the shepherds. Pitch your tents, hot lunch will be prepared and afternoon free time to stroll around, one can study the wild flowers.
DAY 13: Base to Baralacha-la drive to Jispa over Baralachala (4800 mtrs) 4 hours. Trek day 11
Gradual ascend upward the pass Baralacha-la, wade through a small but chilled Yamen stream. After a while you will see the prayer flags flattering on the top of Baralacha-la where drivers are waiting with jeep to pick you up till Manali. Breathtaking drive to Jispa, visit the village and monastery, camp overnight.
DAY 14: Jispa to Udaipur, (98 kms via Trilokinath) (2500 mtrs.)
Visit Keylong, administrative headquarter of the tribal dist. of Lahoul and Spiti. Drive in Chenab valley to visit the temple of Trilokinath (Shiva) 11th century old, the wooden temple of Mrikula Devi in Udaipur, O/N in the camp.
DAY 15: Udaipur to Manali, 165 kms (1950 mtrs)
Scenic drive through several villages of Lahoul; Passport required for checking at Koksar. Snake curved road to the Rohtangpass (3950 mtrs ) providing a magnificent view of surrounding Himalayas. Long descend of 51 kms, fields of wild flower and cascading waterfall accompany you till Manali, O/N in the hotel.
DAY 16: Day free in Manali
Visit Nagar castle, Roerich art gallery, Shiva temple and Vashisht temple and the hot water spring, O/N in hotel.
DAY 17: Manali to Delhi (end of tour)
Free morning, afternoon transfer to bus station, by evening board the bus to Delhi, night in bus.
